The John Grenville Winslow Lecture & Reception
August 2, 2016
6:00pm
Rosecliff
Speaker: Adele Chatfield-Taylor, President Emerita, American Academy of Rome

The American Academy in Rome is the oldest American overseas center for independent studies and advanced research in the fine arts and humanities, annually awarding the Rome Prize to up to thirty artists and scholars working in ancient, medieval, Renaissance and early modern, and modern Italian studies; or architecture, landscape architecture, design, historic preservation or conservation, literature, music composition, or the visual arts. Founded in 1894, the institution has had a fascinating history, and made Rome available to a steady stream of gifted artists and scholars, some of whom have become our cultural lions. This is the story of a quarter-century multi-dimensional historical preservation effort that aspired to preserve the best of its past, while positioning it for the best of the present and future.
